What is Plot?
Plot is the series of events in a narrative. A plot has five parts: an exposition, rising action, a climax, falling action, and a resolution. It is what makes up all stories, including books, movies, and plays. Every plot is made up of a "series of incidents" that are related to one another.

What is Sequence of Events?
Sequence of events are the order in which things happen. Most stories have a plot that is in chronological order, which means that the story has a consecutive beginning, middle, and end. You need sequence of events in order to understand the plot of movies, books, plays, and especially understand directions and instructions.
Plot and sequence of events are best displayed in the form of a plot mountain.

Here is the five parts of the plot of the short story "Seventh Grade"
Exposition: The first part of the story takes place on the first day of seventh grade, in Fresno, California. Victor is looking at his schedule, and is contemplating his reasons for choosing French as his language to study. He already speaks French and English, and the girl he likes, Teresa, is also taking French. Victor vows to ask Teresa out this year, and runs into his friend Michael.
Rising Action- Homeroom starts, with regular first day procedures going on. Victor thinks about Teresa, who is also in his homeroom. When the bell rings, he waits for Teresa, and when she greets him, he fumbles in his words. The day goes by, and during lunch, Victor looks for Teresa. He finds her, and the two look at each other in a friendly way.
Climax- They go to French class. The French teacher, Mr. Bueller, greets them. He asks if anyone knows French. Wanting to impress Teresa, Victor raises his hand. But when Mr. Bueller asks him something in French, Victor doesn't know how to respond, so he make up some gibberish. Mr. Bueller understands that he really does not know French, so he just turns around and continues with the lesson. Abashed, Victor sits down. But then Teresa tells him how good his French-speaking was. Victor silently begs Mr. Bueller not to say anything. Understanding Victor's situation, Mr. Bueller doen't say anything.
Falling action- Teresa comes up to him at the end of class and asks him to help her with her French. Victor accepts, and becomes even more taken with Teresa. He then runs to a bookshop and buys several French books.
Resolution- Victor is filled with hope about his relationship with Teresa, and realizes that he will like seventh grade.
I have used plot and sequence of events in writing my "Seventh Grade" continuation piece this year.
